This conference aims to underline the importance of local governments, civil society and business world acting together in order to advance gender equality and democracy in Turkey. As stated in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 17, it is important to act in cooperation while walking towards UN development goals. In this context, it is our aim to amplify the cooperation between civil society, business world and local governments. This conference will address gender equality as a phenomenon that is further intensified by the global wave of authoritarianism and populism, and by a political context that polarizes society with emotionally charged discourses and undermines democratic principles. When we shift our focus to specifically Turkey, the importance of multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder collaborations emerges even more while supporting the issue of gender equality. The gender equality issue is aso considered as a matter of democracy in this context, and thus it is crucial to develop inclusive and progressive policies on this issue. The conference will serve as a platform to give voice to the guests from the business world, NGOs and Academia in separate panels and to enable sharing of different cooperation examples and to reveal new cooperation suggestions and strategies for future. The conference will also include participation from academics from the University of Bath in England, and the results of their research on Turkey and gender equality will be shared.
