The ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria measure the extent to which an economic actor operates in a sustainable and responsible manner, not only from an economic perspective, but also from an environmental, social and governance standpoint. These criteria are strongly aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which has helped strengthen sustainability as a strategic objective.
The ESG principles (Environmental, Social and Governance) are, in every respect, driving forces behind the transformation of the global economic and production system: sustainability is no longer an option, but a strategic necessity for economic actors seeking to create long-term value and respond responsibly to society’s expectations.
This represents a profound cultural shift, redefining each Organization’s responsibility towards the environment, people and the communities in which it operates, while establishing a common and shared language through which responsibility can be measured. Alongside traditional economic and financial metrics, these criteria affect reputation, attractiveness to investors, access to credit and credit ratings, directly influencing competitiveness and medium- to long-term performance.
Pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies and Third Sector Organizations operating in the healthcare sector are particularly involved in this transformation, given the direct impact they have on people’s health, well-being and quality of life. Responsible innovation, transparency and sustainable processes are therefore becoming essential elements for ethical and long-lasting development.
