The Hertie School extends an invitation for a Roundtable on “Business and the Future of Democracy“ as part of the REBALANCE Project. The event focuses on how business can contribute to strengthening democracy. The growth of anti-democratic sentiments and agendas in different parts of the world, including in Western societies, has been one of the hallmarks and concerns of our time. This concern is heightened in a year in which almost half of the world’s population will elect new leaders, including Europe and Germany. By convening a diverse range of stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, corporations, policymakers and academics, the Roundtable seeks to foster dialogue and explore actionable strategies, reinforcing the need of EU businesses to stand up and lead toward a more democratic world.
The Roundtable will offer insights on how ‘democracy-conforming capitalism’ is realized in business practice and explore key themes such as the challenges faced by business when democracies erode and the roles of businesses and entrepreneurs and policymakers in strengthening democracy. The evening will feature input by select speakers, providing impactful perspectives from each of their unique positions in the field.
